After the unexpected and sudden passing of her father in 2017, Cheri decided that life was just too short to be doing work that she wasn't completely in love with.

In July 2018, Cheri left her full time position and the security it brought to take time to refocus and pursue her own business dreams. Since then, Handmade U, has established a presence on Etsy with 2 shops, participates in community craft events and sales, facilitates a variety of craft workshops at her studio and in the community, and has coached many up and coming “craftypreneurers” to start their Etsy shop or to sell at craft and vendor shows.

In March 2020, Cheri launched the HU Crafty Club as a signature product for HandmadeU. The goal of the HU Crafty Club is to combine a love for creativity, with a need for self-care. This bimonthly DIY subscription box includes all the tools, supplies and instructions needed to complete multiple trending craft projects with the convenience of having it delivered right to your front door. In addition to the craft projects, each box includes a self-care gift, which highlights another woman owned small business.

In June 2020, Handmade U became HandmadeU LLC. The mission of HandmadeU is to inspire creativity in others. HandmadeU strives to become a hub for craft education, supplies and business development.

Cheri lives in Philadelphia, PA. She has her BA from Bucknell University and her M.Ed from Kutztown University.
