Become a Crafty Professor at Handmade U

Handmade U is a boutique, hands on creative studio located in Northwest Philadelphia. We specialize in small group workshops intentionally capped at 12 participants to preserve quality, interaction, and real transformation.

If you are an experienced maker ready to lead a high-quality workshop inside a structured, supported environment, we invite you to apply to become a Crafty Professor.

This is not space rental.
This is a teaching partnership.

As a Crafty Professor, you focus on your craft. We handle the infrastructure.

You teach. We support.

Workshop Structure

Classes typically run 1 to 3 hours.

Evening workshops are scheduled between 6pm and 9pm.
Weekend workshops are typically 10am to 12pm or 2pm to 4pm.
Alternative timeframes may be negotiated.

We cap workshops at 12 participants to maintain a high quality, hands on experience. Exceptions may be considered depending on the workshop format.

You set your course fee and supply fee.
We recommend $15 to $20 per teaching hour plus your supply fee.

An itemized supply list must be submitted with your proposal so we can confidently answer participant questions.

Compensation Model

Instructors receive:

• 50% of the course fee
• 100% of the supply fee

Handmade U manages registration, payment collection, and customer communication.

Compensation is based on final enrollment and agreed pricing.

This structure allows you to:

• Be compensated for your expertise
• Cover your materials in full
• Teach without managing backend systems

Virtual Workshops

If you prefer to teach virtually, that option is available.

For virtual workshops, Handmade U provides:

• Zoom meeting setup
• One virtual assistant
• Technical prep time up to 60 minutes before class
• Chat moderation and participant management

Supply kit fulfillment support may be negotiated if needed for an additional fee.

Youth Workshops

If your workshop is geared toward participants under 18 years old, you must submit:

• FBI Federal Criminal Clearance
• PA Child Abuse Clearance
• PA Criminal Clearance

Instructor Support

We support new and returning instructors through:

• Instructor orientation
• Social media content day
• Class planning sessions
• Curriculum development guidance upon request

All instructors must submit a W9 before payment processing.

Semester Dates

Winter: January 10 – March 31
Spring: April 13 – June 30
Summer: July 13 – September 30
Fall: October 12 – December 31

Becoming a Crafty Professor means representing Handmade U’s standard of excellence.
